WEST PALM BEACH (May 30, 2024) - The Economic Council of Palm Beach County Foundation is honored to announce the winners of the 40th Annual William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education presented by Hanley Foundation. Over 450 guests gathered for a reception and award ceremony on May 14 at the Kravis Center to celebrate the finalists and winners, who were nominated by peers from their individual schools for one of seven categories. "We are thrilled to announce the 2024 winners of the 40th Annual William T. Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education," said Michele Jacobs, President and CEO of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County. "Through their tireless efforts, these educators truly make a positive impact on the lives of students and our community. Their dedication to excellence in education is an inspiration to all." The 2024 Economic Council of Palm Beach County Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education winners are as follows:
l Grow Up Great: Early Childhood Education: Nathalee English, Liberty Park Elementary l Elementary Education: Lois Gray, Seminole Trails Elementary l Middle School Education: Shakendra Moorer, Bak Middle School of the Arts l Senior High Education: Kimberly Coyle, Olympic Heights High l STEM Education: Claudia Chavarria, Pioneer Park Elementary l Exceptional Education: Jessica Maharrey, Palm Springs Middle School l Student Support and Advancement: Janell Leatherman, Emerald Cove Middle School The Economic Council of Palm Beach County, comprised of business leaders deeply committed to fostering educational excellence, received nearly 450 nominations for the 2024 Dwyer Awards. Each nominee underwent a rigorous evaluation process by almost one hundred prominent business leaders from Palm Beach County. This meticulous judging procedure culminated in selecting twenty-eight finalists across seven distinct categories, and then seven winners, one from each category. The Dwyer Awards is named after the late William T. Dwyer, a community leader, and highly respected Pratt & Whitney Government Products Division vice president. The annual program, developed in 1984 and supported by the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, honors outstanding educators from Palm Beach County public and private schools. Twenty-eight finalists are rewarded with a reception, ceremony, and financial recognition. Award recipients receive $3,500 and a personalized crystal award. Finalists receive $500 and a personalized certificate. The program seeks to increase awareness of the exemplary teaching in our community and promote high standards of excellence in education. The 2024 ceremony opened with the National Anthem performed by students from Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School's Performing Ensemble, Armonia Danza. Felicia Rodriguez, anchor at WPBF 25 News, served as the emcee. Opening remarks were made by Bill Dwyer, son of William T. Dwyer; Michele Jacobs, Economic Council President and CEO; Mike Burke, Palm Beach County School District Superintendent; Deana Pizzo, Dwyer Awards Chair; and Dr. Rachel Docekal, Chief Executive Officer of Hanley Foundation. George Elmore and Marti LaTour were thanked as Honorary Chairs.
