(PRESS RELEASE)_Last weekend it was raining cats and dogs, and this weekend will be bursting with colorful kimonos! Learn all about the classical art of the Japanese kimono (which means “thing to wear”) during the annual Kimono Culture Demonstration at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach.
On Saturday, January 22, deep dive into the kimono's fashionable history, as well as learn how to properly wear one. Fabric quality, choice of pattern, thread, paint, and color were essential criteria for presenting the rank, age, gender, and refinement of the person wrapped in a kimono. Feeling spendy? Stock up on yukatas (casual cotton kimonos) at the Museum Store and unleash your inner geisha. Price is $5 with paid museum admission. Kimono culture demonstration times are 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. For more information, call (561) 495-0233 or visit morikami.org. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is located at 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
