![]() (Mounts Botanical Garden) (Press Release) (West Palm Beach, FL – March 5, 2024) Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden will host two popular events on Saturday, March 23, at its beautiful 20-acre oasis, located just minutes from downtown West Palm Beach. Both events will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the last public entry at 3:00 pm, and are FREE with regular Garden admission. Origami Family Day with Famed Origami Artists Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander Plus, the Ronin Taiko Drummers Note: Advance registration is highly recommended for the 1:00 pm lecture with Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander because seating is limited. Celebrating both Japanese culture and the current exhibit at Mounts (ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN), Family Day activities will include: + 9:00 am to 10:30 am – Book Signing and Butterfly Folding in the Pavilion behind the Mounts Gift Shop. Attendees will be encouraged by Origami experts LaFosse and Alexander to fold their own butterflies. + 10:45 am to 11:45 am – Paper Airplane Folding and Flying on the Mounts Great Lawn, complete with a motorized plane launcher. + Noon to 12:30 pm – Taiko Drums by Ronan Taiko, a Fort Lauderdale-based Japanese Drum Troupe. + 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm – Michael LaFosse & Richard Alexander present Hand Papermaking & Origami Art: From Botany to Bronze in Mounts Exhibit Hall A. The only Origami artists who make custom papers for each piece, LaFosse & Alexander will share fascinating aspects about the artform and discuss their hands-on involvement with the current ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN exhibit at Mounts Botanical Garden. + 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm – Paper Folding Demonstrations in Mounts Exhibit Hall A. LaFosse and Alexander will show how to fold an Origami flapping bat. Class size is limited. This is the perfect opportunity to consult with horticultural experts while choosing from a wide variety of palms and rare cycads—more than 500 plants will be available for purchase. Visitors can also purchase a limited supply of top-rated fertilizer and palm and cycad reference books. Admission to the Garden is FREE for members of Mounts Botanical Garden and the Palm Beach Palm & Cycad Society; for nonmembers, it is $20 for adults; $18 for seniors 65+, college students and military with ID; $13 for ages 6 to 17; and free for children under 6. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Credit cards only, no CASH.
