(PRESS RELEASE)_(West Palm Beach, Fla.) – It was bumper to bumper at The Ben Hotel on January 19, when Gulfstream Region Porsche Club of America hosted its second annual “Drive to Provide Shelter and Home Security” event, benefitting Gulfstream Goodwill Industries’ homeless prevention services. More than 200 people gathered on the front lawn of The Ben admiring dozens of rare and vintage Porsche vehicles on display while enjoying cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres and a silent and live auction. As part of fundraising efforts, the corresponding sweepstakes’ grand prize was a brand-new 2023 Porsche Macan, courtesy of headline sponsor Braman Motorcars and Porsche West Palm Beach. Keith Kennedy, President and CEO for Gulfstream Goodwill Industries, welcomed guests and thanked Gulfstream Region Porsche Club of America for choosing Goodwill as their charity of choice. He explained how Goodwill is changing lives through housing, training, education and employment, while assisting people with disabilities and other barriers to employment to become self-sufficient, working members of the South Florida community. “Gulfstream Goodwill Industries is a non-profit agency that serves five counties in southern Florida including Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee,” said Kennedy. “More than 10,000 individuals with some barrier to employment come to Goodwill every year looking for a hand up rather than a handout. Proceeds from tonight are earmarked for our homelessness and residential treatment programs. If we are going to improve the lives of individuals in our community facing homelessness, it needs to be a collective exercise. Tonight is an opportunity for all of us to help individuals work their way out of homelessness. We need your help to make an impact in this community!”
During the evening, guests had the opportunity to cast their vote for their favorite Porsche on display. In addition, culinary trainees from Gulfstream Goodwill’s charter school attended the event and served desserts they prepared. Everyone who attended walked away with a gift bag printed from Goodwill’s Good Prints shop. “We believe in the dignity and power of work,” said Joan McCabe, Board President for Gulfstream Goodwill Industries. “You all know our thrift stores; however, most people do not know that we are the largest health and human organization, in our five-county service area. And most people do not know that we are the largest homelessness provider in our five-county region. Last year, we served 1,500 homeless individuals, helping to get them off the streets and into a safe environment. With your help, we can help even more people!” Sponsors included Braman Porsche West Palm Beach, Finemark Bank, Jetta Investment Company, Florida Insurance Trust, Gardens Wealth Management, Gunster Law Firm, Peter Krones, K2Motorcars, Fantastic Finishes, Thompson Coburn Law Firm, Keith and Diane Kennedy, The Jorgensen Foundation, William Liebowitz, OneDigitial, Canvas Designers Inc., Donna Smolens and Clive Stuart-Finley. “Porsche Club of America is very philanthropic, and each region focuses on its local community,” said Kyle Rathbun, President of Gulfstream Region Porsche Club of America. “We are proud to partner this year with Gulfstream Goodwill Industries. It’s incredible how they are helping the homeless community by giving them a place to stay, train and make them feel like part of the community -- providing our neighbors with a better life.” For more information on Gulfstream Goodwill Industries, please visit goggi.org or call 561-848-7200.
