Product tested: Rainier Foods Sea Salt, Garlic and Pepper Seasoning. ($7.99) About: "Rainier Foods is the maker of delicious premium spice blends perfect for a multitude of mouthwatering meals. From vegetables to chicken, pork, beef, seafood, and snacks, they have the right seasoning for any recipe. A family-owned business located in the shadow of Mt. Rainier in Washington, they source the finest ingredients, with all products made locally to ensure the best quality from the Pacific Northwest." Whether it's trying out new recipes or re-creating our favorite dishes, Pam and I have always loved to cook. There's something therapeutic about pouring a glass of wine, firing up some Miles Davis and mixing it up with the pots and pans. So when we received a sample of Rainier Foods seasonings, you didn't have to twist our arms to try it out. Our sample is their "Sea Salt, Garlic and Pepper," which they describe as "the essential ingredients of most seasonings, but all you need to create great tasting meals are these 3 ingredients and nothing else. Using 3 different types of Sea Salt combined with the best Garlic and Black Pepper available we worked to perfect the Salt, Pepper, Garlic ratio. Once you try this, it will be the only SPG you will ever want to use." They are right. You end up using these seasonings on just about everything. Let's go! Our first test was on a batch of small Dutch potatoes. First, we boil the potatoes, then slice them in half. Next, we add olive oil, melted butter, chives and a generous portion of the Rainier seasoning. After that, they go into the air fryer at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, until they are crispy. Result? Yum-o. The seasonings really made the flavors pop. We also tried it on meat, adding it to chicken thighs that had been marinated in sesame teriyaki sauce. Again, a perfect outcome and great compliment to the teriyaki. This quickly became our "go-to, all-purpose" condiment for meat or veggies, and has earned a spot on our island cooking station. Rainier has a wide assortment of spices and rubs, which you can find on their website, along with the one we tested. We think it will become an "essential" in your kitchen, too. --Gerry and Pamela Barker
