![]() (PRESS RELEASE)_“Florida’s rich and diverse landscape is often celebrated with fine music; her freedoms and opportunities inspire many to extol the virtues of our fine state.” --Mark Humphreys, Music Director, Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches Always a destination for adventure, escape, and opportunity, Florida’s colorful history reflects the scope of the great American experience. Significant music captures this spirit in a variety of ways, and we are excited to share many of them with you in our upcoming “Fanfare and Flourish: American Salute” concerts at 7:30 p.m. on May 20 at Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens and May 22 at the Duncan Theatre in Lake Worth. Tickets ($20) are available by calling 561-832-3115, or online at www.SymphonicBand.org. You’ll embrace the journey through freedom, our state, and our nation with David Gillingham’s remarkable “Council Oak,” a flamboyant and profound allegory of survival derived from Seminole tribal themes and dances, contrasted with the heart of family tourism in “Disney Fantasy” bringing the real deal in animated excitement. Additionally, the march master Henry Fillmore devoted many works to our state, including the quick steps “Orange Bowl” and “Men of Florida.” Another Miami great, Clifton Williams, also offered a stirring tribute with “Strategic Air Command,” and Frank Sturchio’s “King Cane” (1942) was aptly dedicated to U.S. Sugar President Clarence Bitting. FAU Director of Athletic Bands Marc Decker will share tales of March Madness and his new edition of the “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare.” And, along with our annual “Armed Forces Salute,” we’re proud to present the U.S. Marine Band’s special arrangement of “American Pageant.” This conclusion to our 2022-23 season is sure to be one of reflection, energy, and pride, and certainly a show that you won’t want to miss.
