WHO: Loggerhead Marinelife Center of Juno Beach (LMC) WHAT: This Thursday, March 9, Loggerhead Marinelife Center will release Poppy, a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle, from its facility off Juno Beach. Poppy was found floating near Hutchinson Island last October covered in barnacles and leeches. Initial bloodwork showed anemia, hypoglycemia and overall poor health due to starvation. Poppy was placed in freshwater for two days to remove the barnacles and leeches, and was administered fluids with dextrose, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics and vitamins. After these fluids, antibiotics and treatments, we are pleased to inform that the sea turtle is cleared for release. Poppy will be prepared for release from LMC starting at 10:30 a.m. A history of the turtle’s journey and final preparations will be conveyed to visitors by one of LMC’s education docents, with a procession to the beach for the release to follow.
