(PRESS RELEASE)_Naples, Fla., September 14, 2022 – There’s more to Florida’s Paradise Coast than pristine beaches, emerald-green fairways, relaxing spas and luxurious resorts – the destination also has a longstanding appreciation for the arts and a deep-rooted history connected to Florida’s Hispanic heritage. To acknowledge and celebrate that legacy, the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB is proud to announce the launch of ¡ARTE VIVA!, a year-long celebration of the rich cultural and artistic contributions of our Hispanic community. Through a variety of events, exhibitions, performances, educational seminars and lectures hosted across the arts and cultural organizations within the community, visitors and residents will be able to immerse themselves in over 50 events beginning this fall. ¡ARTE VIVA! Full Event Schedule (as of Sept. 14, 2022) 09/01/22 - 07/30/23 Artis—Naples Jesús Rafael Soto: Extension and Half Sphere The monumental outdoor sculpture Extension and Half Sphere (1991) by Venezuelan artist Jesús Rafael Soto (1923-2005) activates the north lawn of The Baker Museum this season. Composed of acrylic and aluminum, this sculpture exemplifies Soto’s pioneering contributions to kinetic art. This presentation of Extension and Half Sphere is organized by Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum, courtesy of Ascaso Gallery, Miami. Ticket Information 09/15/22 Naples Art Artistas Hispanos Contemporaneos Lecture Series and Reception: Jonathan Martinez and Maria Castillo, Visiting Artists A lecture and reception event kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month featuring two visiting artists, Jonathan Martinez and Maria Castillo. Jonathan Martinez is a multimedia artist based in Immokalee and Maria Castillo is a mixed media artist and historian, originally from Puerto Rico. Both artists will discuss their work, their artistic journey, and their contributions to the diverse American society. Ticket Information 09/15/22 Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria Fiesta Fest In preparation of National Hispanic Heritage Month, (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria will once again host its annual Fiesta Fest in celebration of the cultural observance on Sept. 16th. This year’s festivities will showcase food, music, and entertainment unique to the Latino culture. The event will be hosted at all the Felipe’s locations throughout the county. Free Admission. 09/17/22 -11/30/22 Naples Art THE artEQuity Project Virtual Exhibition Opening: Sueños Inspiradores Join us for an opening reception at Naples Art for this premier virtual art exhibition, entitled: Sueños Inspiradores | Inspiring Dreams, hosted in collaboration with The Immokalee Foundation. The exhibition showcases art works of students, ages 14-18, and provides a platform to engage with the dreams of our community’s youth. Guests attending the reception on Saturday, September 17 at 3 p.m. will be welcomed to join the artists on the Bette A. Young Plaza, where the spectacular opening will begin with beverages and light hors d'oeuvres. The virtual exhibition will be presented in Studio 200, affording guests a visual “walk-through” of the virtual exhibition and an opportunity for featured artists to introduce their work. More Information 10/01/22 -01/29/23 Naples Botanical Garden La Calavera Catrina La Calavera Catrina features eight towering sculptures of La Catrina, one of the most recognizable figures of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). An elegant female skeleton and an icon of Mexican heritage, La Catrina approaches death not through sadness, but as a colorful celebration of life. Designed by Los Angeles-based artist Ricardo Soltero, these 8-foot-tall, brightly adorned sculptures will add an element of surprise to your Garden stroll. The La Calavera Catrina exhibit is organized by the Denver Botanic Gardens. Ticket Information 10/02/22 -10/03/22 Naples Art District Visiting Artist Ricardo Soltero Ricardo Soltero is the creator of the La Calavera Catrina being showcased at Naples Botanical Garden. He will be working with the artists of the Naples Art District to create large, colorful murals and life-size images of the artis Frida Kahlo for their upcoming “Frida Fest” in January. More Information 10/03/22 -11/21/22 Marco Island Center for the Arts Día de los Muertos Grass Wall - Outdoor Art Installation Marjorie Pesek of Marjorie Pesek Fine Art, works with students at Marco Island Center for the Arts to create multidimensional Grass Walls that will be decorated by children during free summer art programs, with crafts that celebrate the Day of the Dead. The project will teach children about the holiday and the cultural creations will be on display in the Art Center’s courtyard in October and November of 2022. More Information 10/13/22 - 10/30/22 Gulfshore Playhouse 26 Miles When Beatriz receives a late-night call-for-help from her estranged teenage daughter Olivia, she spirits her away on an impromptu cross-country road trip. 26 Miles is the story of a broken family rediscovering love by Pulitzer Prize winner and Tony-nominated playwright, Quiara Alegria Hudes. Hudes, who is of Jewish and Puerto Rican descent, wrote the book for the hit Broadway musical In The Heights with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Ticket Information 11/01/22 Naples Art Día de los Muertos Naples Art is proud to present a half-day workshop, entitled Día de los Muertos | Day of the Dead. This class offers students the opportunity to learn about traditions celebrated around the world honoring the legend of La Catrina, and an art-making experience. A reception and festive celebration follows, for those participating in the workshop and the general public, featuring the artistic creations from the day’s workshop. Free Admission 01/05/23 -01/06/23 Naples Art Día de los Reyes Epiphany Workshop, Reception, and Course A series of classes and events led by Maria Castillo Fuertes, local artist, and historian, originally from Puerto Rico. Ticket Information 03/18/23 -07/30/23 Artis—Naples Three Degrees of Separation: Artistic Connections in the Permanent Collection Three Degrees of Separation showcases selected modern artworks of the Americas drawn from The Baker Museum’s permanent collection. Through the lens of artists’ social networks, it showcases visual and thematic interconnections manifested in the artworks, while also revealing their historical contexts. The exhibition provides glimpses into how artistic ideas were exchanged, avant-garde styles spread, and cross-cultural artistic pollination occurred in the early and mid-20th century. Ticket Information 04/30/23 Gulfshore Opera Don Giovanni in partnership with the Naples Philharmonic Gulfshore Opera’s full-scale grand opera production of Don Giovanni comes to Artis – Naples on April 30th in partnership with Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.
